Robyn M. Boerstling joined the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) in April 2008 as the Director of Transportation and Infrastructure Policy. Robyn helps direct the NAM’s transportation advocacy agenda and works on legislative and coalition efforts that seek to repair and modernize the nation’s infrastructure. In addition, she adds the manufacturing voice to a range of transportation and security regulatory issues that impact NAM members.
Previously, Robyn served as the Counselor to the Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy in the Office of the Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). She worked in policy development and assisted with the day-to-day management of the Office of Transportation Policy.
Robyn joined the DOT in October 2001 as a Schedule C Presidential Appointee and also worked in the Secretary’s Office of Public Affairs as a Special Assistant from 2003 to 2005. From 2001 to 2003, Robyn directed the U.S. Maritime Administration’s Office of Congressional and Public Affairs. Prior to her time at the DOT, Robyn was a legislative assistant to a state senator in the Connecticut General Assembly.
A native of Madison, Connecticut, Robyn is a graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and gained a life-long love of transportation from her father, who continues to travel along the coast of New England as a harbor pilot. Robyn serves on the Washington Board for Colby College’s Goldfarb Center for Public Engagement. She also holds memberships in the Women’s Transportation Seminar and the Connecticut Maritime Association.

Mark is the Customs Consultancy Manager for DHL Global Logistics, responsible for DHLs professional consulting services team in the United States. Mark consults with DHL’s largest clients on developing internal audits and programs, to insure compliance with import and export laws and regulations.
Mark previously recently served as Director of MIQ Logistics’ Global Trade Management team and their Western Regional Director, with total responsibility for MIQ’s Global operations in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.
Mr. Hirzel has consulted and counseled clients on US Customs Border Protection (CBP) classification and compliance issues; development Importer Security Filing (ISF) processes; and provided internal and external compliance education programs
Mr. Hirzel earned a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration, Marketing Management with a concentration in International Marketing degree from California Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Mr. Hirzel has participated as a moderator for the annual Western Cargo Conference of Custom brokers and Freight Forwarders since 2009; an event which educates and updates Customhouse Brokers and Freight Forwarders along the US West Coast and the entire United States on Logistics issues and emerging Customs regulations.
Mr. Hirzel also sits on the Policy and Steering Committee of the California State University Long Beach, Center for International Trade and Transportation (CITT). The CITT is a multidisciplinary center for multifunctional transportation studies and integrated logistics research, education, training, policy analysis, and community outreach. The Policy and Steering Committee gathers supply chain stakeholders from government, ports authorities, labor unions and private industry in an academic environment to find common ground on issues effecting goods movements in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
In addition to his employment and educational experience, since 2008 Mr. Hirzel has served as a Director of the Los Angeles Customs Brokers Freight Forwarders Association. Incorporated in 1949, the Los Angeles Customs Brokers & Freight Forwarders Association (LACBFFA) represents licensed U.S. customs brokers, freight forwarders, NVOCCs (non-vessel operating common carriers) and firms which facilitate international trade. The LACBFFA is the premier organization in Southern California for international trade and U.S. Customs issues, and its more than 300 company members, employing over 6,000 individuals, who file more than 95% of all import entries in the Los Angeles Customs District. Mr. Hirzel was elected Vice President of the LACBFFA in 2013 and President in 2014. Mark’s comments to Manufacturing Talk Radio are only in his capacity as President of the Los Angeles Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association and on behalf of its membership.
Executive Director, Agriculture Transportation Coalition
Peter Friedmann plays a key role in developing U.S. and international ocean and waterborne transportation policy.
He serves as Executive Director of the Agriculture Transportation Coalition, the organization which the trade press has identified as the “principle voice of agriculture exporters in US transportation policy.” The AgTC is the means by which agriculture exporters and importers pursue favorable transportation policy in truck, rail, port and ocean carrier practices. The AgTC pursues specific steps to provide a dependable and affordable transportation network to keep US agriculture exports competitive in the global marketplace.
Consistent with representation of agriculture shippers’ interests, Peter serves as Counsel to organizations such as the Pacific Coast Council of Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarders, and the Coalition of New England Companies for Trade, and represents US port authorities, all with an interest in maritime commerce. On behalf of multinational corporations, he assists in negotiation of ocean transportation contracts. He is often cited as a leading authority in transportation policy in Washington, DC.
As Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, Peter was responsible for drafting the Ocean Shipping Act, and numerous other transportation laws, including Jones Act amendments, and the international cargo fee mechanisms by which U.S. ports and inland waterways are dredged and operated — the Harbor Maintenance Fee. Since leaving Capitol Hill, Peter has been a leading advocate for cargo and international trade interests before Congress, the Federal Maritime Commission, and other federal agencies.
