Manufacturing Day: October 2, 2015

Manufacturing Talk Radio, sponsored by All Metals & Forge Group, in an official endorser of Manufacturing Day, a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturing employees.  In 2014, over 1,679 events were held in manufacturing plants and facilities across the country, including all 50 states, three Canadian provinces and Puerto Rico.  2014 also marked the first time virtual events were held, where anyone from anywhere could observe more than a dozen different activities at manufacturing sites, including the largest hosted by Discovery Education and Alcoa which had over 100,000 participants.

Proclamations were issued by local, county, and state governments, along with the federal proclamation by President Barack Obama declaring October 3, 2014 as Manufacturing Day in the U.S.  For 2015, Manufacturing Day will be celebrated officially on October 2, although events will begin in late September and extend throughout the month of October at thousands of manufacturers across the U.S.

The purpose of Manufacturing Day is to show modern manufacturing technology to the next generation of students graduating from high school and college, demonstrating that Made in America is even cooler today in manufacturing than ever before. The days of dark, dirty and dangerous are being replaced by clean, creative and contemporary as the entire industry becomes retrofitted or refit with addressable devices, specialized data gathering, and controlled by hand-helds from the shop floor to the top floor, next door or miles away.

Co-producers that coordinated the culmination of events included the FMA (Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International), NAM (National Association of Manufacturers), MI (the Manufacturing Institute), NIST-MEP (the National Institute of Standards and Technology), MEP (Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership), and guest producer ISM (Industrial Strength Marketing).  National media partners included the Science Channel and Edge Factor, and the national movie partner was American Made Movie.
